Okay, this one knocked my socks off. Radiohead is one of my all-time favorites, and Butternut Sweetheart capture that restless vibe perfectly on “Cold Modern Life.”Believe it or not, they say they spent nearly seven years getting this one just right. Maybe that’s sorta true. It’s been six years since I first fell for their track “Sweetheart” on Indie Shuffle, and rediscovering it just now reminded me how good they are.This one comes as the lead single off their upcoming EP I’ve Got My Problems, You’ve Got Your Dreams (out July 10). Mixed by Sam Cromack of Ball Park Music, it rides a tight groove of driving drums and jagged synths that build into a huge, cathartic finish. Lyrically, it’s all about craving real human connection in a world that often feels cold and disconnected.Frontman Luke Moseley says he tried recording this song four times before a little Critter & Guitari synth he bought in L.A. gave it that wild edge it needed. The result is bold, urgent, and impossible to ignore. Also, the band jumped into a cold ocean, so… you gotta give them props for that.
