Geese – Au Pays du Cocaine

Sounds like:
Squid, Black Country, New Road, Car Seat Headrest

What’s so good?

Geese’s new highly anticipated album, Getting Killed, releases to high critical and fan acclaim with fans’ continued shock and awe to Cameron Winter’s brilliantly-unique vocals and songwriting.

Geese take a small sidestep in sound from their previous record, 3D Country, which showcased a more surreal imagery and songwriting style and also slighty more accessible melodies and vocals. While there is plenty of overlap over these two albums Geese seem to drown even more into the heartbreaking ballads with vocals and melodies sounding like pain- in the best way possible.

“Au Pays du Cocaine” represents this perfectly with one of the first lines being, “You can stay with me and just pretend I’m not there”. It’s so simply saddening, showing the desire to be around someone so much it doesn’t matter if they care you’re there or not.

This line takes you straight into the chorus which doesn’t let up at all and instead drops into instrumentation invloving the whole band with Cameron’s raw and slightly raspy vocals sailing on top. It’s one of those songs where words alone can’t justify the quality of the song, you just have to experience it.
