dust – Drawbacks
Sounds like:
Fontaines DC, shame, IDLES, Interpol
What’s so good?
From the first time I saw them live a few years back, dust have been my favourite Australian band. I’d heard their music before and felt the abrasive energy sing out from the recordings, but in a small club in Brisbane, all the parts made complete sense. It’s a band with a lot of elements that, in the wrong hands, would feel disjointed, but this couldn’t be further from the truth for the 5-piece.
Their debut album, Sky is Falling, will give you a good sense of the band’s unique sound, worldly while still feeling incredibly Australian. It has frantic, energetic moments, but also points of tenderness and introspection – a perfect listen from the moment you’re sucked in by the grating guitar riffs and pulsating percussion on “Drawbacks.”
The band will be hitting the road in support of their new album, with an extensive tour through Europe and North America kicking off in January, after ending their year with a run of shows in Australia.
