Benjamin Booker – Pompeii Statues

Sounds like:
Perfume Genius, Sault, FKA Twigs, The Weather Station
What’s so good?
This song’s meaningful lyrics are mixed with interesting production that isn’t all too common. What Benjamin Booker strives to do with this EP seems to bring serious issues to the forefront of his songs. The soft and tender longing vocals Booker spouts out sound like they come from pain and concern which makes sense regarding the subject. The song from its beginning, with its interesting strings creates a discordant harmony. When the drums and vocals come in this dischordant experimental part seems to level out with the vocals. The haunting vocals still manage to have a strong melodic parts to enjoy. This song balances the discordant and melodic tones in a way that doesn’t feel overbearing in order to bring the lyrics to the forefront.Booker uses his platform here to talk about the very serious issue of homelessness and how that affects their mental health and the overall health of society. The unique production of this song along with its meaningful lyrics, seals this song as an excellent track for me.
